Alphonse turned up the weekend of our wedding — there were lots of people around and the door was always open, providing perfect access for a friendly stray. We thought he belonged to a neighbor because he was in such good condition and so loving towards people, but we still decided to give him a name — Alphonse, after the composer of a piece of music that would be played in our wedding. A few months later he turned up again, and this time we figured out that he didn’t have a permanent home. We started feeding him, and the rest is history! He’s a wonderful addition to our newly-formed family.
