Bella the Luck Dragon
I drove by the local animal shelter twice a day, every day. I already had one rescue dog and we were not looking for another member of the family so I never stopped. Then, on a Saturday afternoon in October, two years ago, we were going home from somewhere and I just had to stop at the shelter. I didn’t know why or what I was looking for but I knew I had to go in and look.
We had gone through all of the halls and looked at a hundred dogs but I still didn’t know what or who I was looking for, I just had a feeling that I needed to be there. Finally as we went to the last door, I knew why I was there. We walked in and I didn’t see any of the dogs there except this white ball curled up in the far corner of her cage, facing the wall and shivering. I couldn’t take my eyes off this dog. I opened the cage door, walked in slowly and looked in to the saddest brown eyes I have ever seen.
Bella was a two year old Great Pyrenees that had been abandoned at the shelter. She was starved, abused, had numerous health issues including kennel cough and was mine from that second on.
In the two years since we adopted her, she has gained 20lbs, learned to play with me and my other dog, and found her forever home.
The night we brought her home, we watched Never Ending Story. As she was laying at my feet, sound asleep & NOT scared for the first time, she got her name, Bella the Luck Dragon. She looked so peaceful and just like the Luck Dragon in the movie.
